Henry Alonzo Higgerson married Essie Bagwill (August 19, 1891—July 29, 1913) on September 29, 1910, and they had one son:

1) Wayne Higgerson, born July 21, 1912, and lived in Carbondale.

After Essie's death, Henry married Alice Smyth (January 12, 1892-December 30, 1988) the daughter of William Smyth and Jane Ayres. Coincidentally, Henry's brother Clarence married Alice's sister, Mary Elizabeth Smyth. Henry Alonzo and Alice had three children:

2) Audrey Higgerson Miller
3) Phyllis Higgerson Richmond
4) Douglas Eugene Higgerson

Henry's draft card, dated June 5, 1917, describes him as being of medium height and slender build, with gray eyes and black hair. He lists his father, wife, and two children as dependents. His place of birth appears to be Steeleville, but his handwriting is hard to decipher. He lists his birth date as October 9, 1886, contrary to the year 1887 on his tombstone.
According to the 1920 census, enumerated on January 2, Henry and Alice had a son named Jenner D. (?) aged one year and 10 months, putting his birth in March of 1918, but this is most likely a poorly transcribed version of "Douglas Eugene", who was, in fact, born in April of 1918.
