Graveside rites for Rufus P. Avinger, 72, a resident of Brown County for more than 60 years, will be held 4p.m. today at the Rocky Creek Cemetery.

He died Tuesday night in a Ranger hospital after a brief illness. Prior to the graveside rites,funeral services were to be held at 1 p.m. today in the Second Baptist Church at Ranger with the Rev. James Ward officiating.

Mr. Avinger, son of the late Mr and Mrs. Henry Avinger was born in Louisiana. He lived in the Bangs and Brookesmith communities most of his life and moved to Ranger two years ago after living in California a few years. He operated a store at Brookesmith.

Surviving are his wife: three sons, M.A. of Washington D.C., D.C., A .R. of California, A.B of Avinger of Ranger: two daughters, Mrs. O.L. Lee of Cisco and Mrs. J.H. Marshall, Americana, Brazil: a brother Jessie Avinger, Weslaco, and six grandchildren. He was a cousin of Chester and W.B. Avinger, Mrs. Maggie Perry and Mrs. Henry Howlett, all of Brownwood.

Morris Funeral Home of Ranger is in charge of arrangements.
