Elmer was married to Lillian Robinson on Nov. 24, 1934. They moved to Oklahoma City where they raised five children: Martha, Glenna, Donnie, Curtis and Erletta.
He enjoyed singing gospel music in church and at family gatherings. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist church. He also liked visiting with friends and family. Early on, he worked at Armour, and later, in a machine shop.
He took pneumonia after mowing a neighbor's lawn in the rain...and he did not survive.
