Kenneth C. Gearhart, 76, of Michigan Street died at 5 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Gearhart formerly worked at Cosco, Cummins Engine Co. and Dolly Madison Bakery. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion and enjoyed playing musical instruments.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Dale Goddard officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Daugherty Cemetery and military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.


Born in Edinburgh Jan. 19, 1930, Mr. Gearhart was the son of Carl and Alta Brinker Gearhart. He married Judy Laffoon July 20, 1994.

Survivors include his wife; stepsons, Kenneth (Linda) Dill of Columbus, Wilmer Reed of Shelburn, James (Misty) Reed of Shelburn, Albert Lee Reed Jr. of Farmersburg and George (Roseann) Reed of Terre Haute; a stepdaughter, LaMona (Clarence) Swalls of Jasonville; brothers, Junior (Evett) Gearhart of Florida, Richard (Iris) Gearhart of Columbus and Dean (Carol) Gearhart of Columbus; a half brother, James Abney of Columbus; half sisters, Nancy (John) Setser of Columbus and Jeannie Abney of Franklin; several stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eleanor Carter Gearhart; two stepsons; one stepdaughter; and two brothers.
