Mrs. Lillie Knotts Dies At Age 91
Mrs. Lillie M. Knotts, 91, of Stumptown, a member of a prominent Calhoun family, died Monday evening, February 23, at her home after an extended illness.
Born in Roane county, the daughter of Henry H. and Selina Starcher Mace, she was a charter member of Ebenezer Baptist church of near Orma.
Her husband, the late Robert J. Knotts, sr., was a well known political figure in Calhoun county, being a sheriff three terms and assessor for two. The Knotts family operated a general store at Orma for many years.
Her great-grandfather, Phillip Starcher, was the first known settler pioneer of Calhoun County.
Survivors include three sons, Robert J. Knotts, jr., of Stumptown, Walter A. and Henry E. Knotts, both of Massillon, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Strimple of Warren, Ohio, Mrs. Pansy Baker of Sand Ridge, and Mrs. Daisy Stump of Grantsville; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by two sons, Russell and Bryan.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m., at the Stump funeral home with the Rev. Ray Bartlett officiating, assisted by the Rev. B.O. Vanhorn. Burial will be in the Knotts Chapel Baptist church cemetery at Orma.
Active pallbearers will include Ott Poling, Omar Godfrey, Hughart Stump, Leonard Fowler, I.B. Fowler, Earl Minney, Hagen Kerby, Pete Conrad, Wood Fowler, Harlan Starcher and Euell Hoskins, sr.
