RITES ARE HELD FOR AUGUST J. SMITH, 78
Former Clark County Man Dies at Greenwood

Greenwood-Funeral services for August J. Smith, 78, who died July 26 at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt, Greenwood, were held Monday afternoon, July 30 at 2 o'clock at the Candlish Chapel in Fond du Lac, the Rev. B. J. Stecker officiating. Interment was made in Rosendale Cemetery.
Vocal solos were given by Mrs. Percy Koslosky with Mrs. W. E. Tennant as organist. Serving as pallbearers were Louis and Edward Stolfuss, Lester and Reynold Miller and Edward and Emil Smith.
Lived Near Dorchester
Mr. Smith, long a farm resident in the Eldorado and Rosendale vicinity was born in the Town of Eldorado July 19, 1867, the son of William and Wilhelmina Priepke Smith. He lived on farms in the town of Eldorado for two years, the Town ow Springvale for a year then in Clark County near Dorchester until 1910 returning to a farm near Rosendale to stay for seven years. The past 10 years were spent in Fond du Lac.
His wife, Minnie, whom he married at Ripon Nov. 9, 1893, died April 14, 1940. Since her death he had been making his hoe with a daughter, Mrs. Alvina Johnson, at Fond du Lac, coming to Greenwood this spring to spend the summer at the Fred Schmidt home.
Three Daughters Survive
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Fred Schmidt, Greenwood; Mrs. Alvin Johnson, Fond du Lac and Mrs. Harold Roberts, Kohler; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Augusta Stollfus, died June 26, 1945.
Attending the funeral from away were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robers and son, Kenneth and Doris Barker, Kohler; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt and daughter Gladys, Greenwood; Mrs. Gusta Schmidt, Curtiss; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Muche, Mayville; Mrs. Catherine Phelps, Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Goppelt, Waupun; Donald Johnson, fireman, first class, Seattle, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Plagenz, Mrs. Fred Kutz and Mrs. Virginia Koentopp, Ripon; Miss Betty Hoffman, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, Withee; and relatives and friends from the Eldorado and Rosendale vicinity.
