CORINNA - Mark S. Brooks, 88, died September 20, 2001 at his residence. He was born July 27, 1913 at the family farm in North Newport, the son of Harry and Helena (Downes) Brooks. He attended school in Newport, Detroit, and Holbrook, Mass. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, local mills, and retired from the Maine Department of Transportation after 21 years. He was married to Ruth Adams Brasier in 1935, and Frances White Brooks in 1948. He was predeceased by his wives, a daughter, Loretta Brooks Taylor, and a brother, Martin Brooks. Mark served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Morses Corner Baptist Church in Corinna, the Charleston Pentecostal Church, and the Newport Full Gospel Church. He was a lifetime member and past master of Eastville Grange #426 of East Newport, a past deputy of the Maine State Grange, and was nine times master of the Pomona and member of the National Grange. Mark was a 32 Degree Mason and member of the Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge in Newport for 50 years, and a member of the Odd Fellows for 51 years. He also belonged to the Cleora Rebekah Lodge of Corinna.

He is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Henderson of Corinna; and two foster daughters, Ruby Mooers of Broad Brook, CT, and Elsie Seavey of Newport; one sister, Evelyn Brooks Rowe Baldwin of Gray; a step-sister, Dorothy Nickerson of Newport; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, including a special friend, Grace Braley Lander of Newport, and a special nephew Martin Brooks, Jr. of Indiana.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday at Newport Full Gospel Church, where friends may call from noon until the time of services. Burial will be in North Newport Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Corinna.
