Veteran: Nathan was a framer in Tennessee when he enlisted on November 18,1862 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee for two years. He was wounded slightly at the Battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee on December, 1862. He was in a Confederate Hospital in Macon, Georgia on October 5, 1864 suffering from a Gun Shot Wound that he received at Jonesboro, Georgia on September 30th, 1864 that required the amputation of his right arm 2" below the elbow joint. He was paroled and was a patient in a Confederate hospital in Okolona, Mississippi in May, 1865 at the end of the war. His brother, Sgt. Thomas H. Burke served with him and survived the war also.
He married Martha Ann Whitley and they had 4 children, 3 boys and one girl.
Martha filed for a Confederate Widow's Pension on March 29, 1909 which was approved, #2482 TN.
