J.H. CLIETT CALLED TO REST

Two months ago, Prof. J.H. Cliett was stricken with paralysis and but little hope was felt that he could survive. However, under the constant care of physicians and relatives, he withstood the encroachment of the last enemy for eight long weeks. The end came at his home several miles north of town. Sunday afternoon at Zion's Rest the funeral services were conducted by Elder Shaddix, were witnessed by a large congregation of relatives and friends. Several from this place attended.
Mr. Cliett was one of the oldest teachers in the county. For many years he rendered faithful service in this important field of endeavor. Mr. Cliett was a very conscientious man, and possessed much of the courtesy and deference that marked the old time gentleman. His father, Elder J.W.H. Cliett, was one of the most prominent ministers of the Primitive Baptist denomination of his day and was a man held in high esteem.
The writer will long remember the kind and encouraging
words spoken by his deceased friend along the way, and joins with Prof. Cliett's host of friends in paying
tribute to his memory and in tendering condolence to those to whom he was related by the ties of kinship.

AND.....

IN MEMORIAM OF J.H. CLIETT

Prof. J.H. Cliett departed this life Dec. 15, 1916 and was laid to rest at Zion's Rest Dec. 17, 1916. A large crowd of relatives and friends attended the funeral service which was conducted by Elder M. Shadix.
Prof. Cliett was a son of Elder Johnnie Cliett and Mrs. Permelia Cliett, who sleep by his side in the cemetery. He was a teacher in Randolph and Chambers county for many years and did much good in helping to educate the rising
generation. He held a first grade life certificate and well did he deserve it.
As a citizen he always tried to discharge his duties. We feel that he lived the life of a christian and died the death of the righteous and we feel that he could say "henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only but unto all them that love Him."
We tender to his entire family our heartfelt sympathy, and desire if it is the Lord's will, they be prepared to meet him in that upper and better kingdom where all will be peace and joy through all the ages of eternity.
