He had 8 children and lived 80 years. John W Reid followed the family tradition, becoming a millwright, miller, and farmer in South Argyle. His will left his estate to his wife Ann for the duration of her life and then directed it to be divided among his heirs, including the children of his daughter, Jane elizabeth Reid Williams, then dedeased. He appointed his son, Joseph W. Reid as executor.
