Daily Commonwealth, Wed. Apr. 20, 1898, p. 3:3. Jacob Schmitz aged 44 years, died at his home on West Arndt street, Tuesday afternoon after an illness of many weeks. Mr. Schmitz came to Fond du Lac when he was 17 years of age, entering the employ of Mr. Pieron, proprietor of the Fond du Lac Boiler works. Four years ago he purchased the works and has conducted the same ever since. Mr. Schmitz leaves a wife, four daughters, Anna, Tillie, Katie and Mollie; four sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Czarnecki, of Medford; Mrs. Matt Schumacher, of Johnsburg; Miss Mary Schmitz of Fond du Lac; and Sister Anthony of St. Agnes Convent; and one brother, Mr. Matt Schmitz of Marytown. The funeral will be held from St. Mary's church at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning, with interment at Calvary. The Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, of which he was a member, will attend in a body. Mr. Schmitz, during his residence in this city, has made many friends who extend their sympathy to the sorrowing family.
