Son of Robert (1759-1834) and Agnes Wilson Moore; grandson of William (1717- ) and Isobel Wilson Moore. James married Rosannah McClelland in 1794, and together they had seven children---Agnes, William, Janet/Jane, Rosannah/Rosey, James Jr., Fergus and Margaret.
1961 Moore family genealogy book says in several places that James was born on March 17, 1769, but his headstone clearly says "March the 1st".
Also, it is noted that his birth in 1769 is not correct if his father's birth in 1759 is accurate. His wife was born in 1769, and she and James had children beginning in 1796, all of which supports his birth in 1769. The 1769 date is being left as-is until it or his father's birth date can be documented/changed.
