Bobby was born in Cape May Court House and was a lifetime resident of the Cape May area. He worked for 24 years as a cable technician for Comcast Cable, Wildwood. He held several Certificates in various technical phases of the cable company operations.
He had previously worked for several local businesses, including Steve's Mobil, Brent's Restaurant, and Menear's Landscaping.
He enjoyed working with various children's programs. He served as a coach, umpire, referee, and as a grounds keeper for the Lower Cape May Little League, and for the Lower Township Hockey League. He was a longtime member of 4-H, and had received their 'Mayor's Award'. He was a former member and Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 87, where he had attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Lower Cape May Regional High School Class of 1984. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, but his true love was coaching and helping children.
Bobby is survived by: his parents, Robert and Patricia Calkins, of Cold Spring; two children, Alicia and Alex Calkins of North Cape May; his sister, Wendy Calkins, of Cold Spring; and his beloved and longtime friend, Mary Reeves.
A Service of Celebration will take place on Tuesday at 11 AM in First Assembly of God Church, 1068 Seashore Road, Cape May. There will be two viewings, the first on Monday evening from 6 PM to 8 PM, and the second on Tuesday from 10 AM to 11 AM, both in the First Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow the services in Cold Spring Cemetery, Lower Township.
Donations may be made in his memory to: Calkins Children Education Fund, in c/o any branch of Sturdy Savings Bank.
