~~HENRIETTA LANSING OTLY~~
"Died at the home of her son, James Otley, of Custer, Wash., Nov. 11th 1912, Mrs. Henrietta Otley, of apoplexy, after an illness of two weeks.
In the death of Mrs. Otley, we find the passing of one of Pierce Co.'s early pioneers.
Henrietta Lansing was born in Holland April 10th, 1828. She emigrated to this country with her parents at the age of sixteen, locating in Milwaukee. She was married to George Otly, of Rubicon, in 1848; to them were born five sons - James and John of Custer, and Charles E., of Bellingham, Wash. - two dying in infancy.
They removed to Pierce Co. in the fall of 1865, driving through with a team in company with several other families, and locating on Plum Creek, on what is now known as the Aug. Reinke farm.
They moved to Eau Galle some years after, later to Osakis, Minn., and in 1889 to Whatcom Co., Wash., Mr. Otly dying shortly after.
Besides three sons, she leaves two brothers - John Lansing, of Bellingham, Wash., and Henry Lansing, of Couer d'Alene, Idaho and numerous other relatives, among them C. G. Lansing, of Waverly, D. M. Lansing of South Hill and John Mercer and Mrs,.Wm. Burns, formerly of Spring Valley, her nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Otly was a devoted mother and a kind neighbor; she was a member of the M. E. Church and had been an earnest Christian from her youth.
She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the cemetery at Blaine, Wash., Nov. 13th, 1912."
