Clifford Jewel Bowerman was born March 17, 1910 in Oklahoma, son of Peter Lee Bowerman and Loula Josephine "Josie" See. Jewel had five siblings: Lester Lee, born March 22, 1907 in Oklahoma; David E., born April 19, 1908 in Bebee, Oklahoma; Henry A., born April 23, 1912 in Ada, Oklahoma; Albert, born 1914 in Oklahoma; and Willis, born August 18, 1916 in Oklahoma. Jewel also had five half-siblings as a result of his father's first marriage: Nora Etter, born October 2, 1888; William Herbert, born November 14, 1890; Mary Costa, born March 21, 1897 in Texas; Dewey, born April 28, 1899, in Ada, Oklahoma (Pontotoc County); and Lattie Elizabeth, born May 7, 1902, in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma.

In 1920, Jewell was age 9, and living in Saline, Arkansas (Sevier County) with his father, Peter, age 56; and his mother, Josie, age 48; and his five siblings: Lester, age 12; David, age 11; Henry, age 7; Albert, age 6; and Willis, age 3.

Jewel married Bertie Beatrice Isbell, who was born February 25, 1905 in Oklahoma Territory, daughter of John Addie Isbell and Nola Ann Williams. Bertie was a Charter member of the First Assembly Of God Church in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Bertie died September 4, 1989, in Madisonville, Kentucky (Hopkins County) and was buried there in the IOOF Cemetery. Jewel died November 12, 1994, in Madisonville, and was buried beside his wife.

Clifford Jewel Bowerman, 84, died at 1:05 p.m. Saturday, November 12, at Clinic Convalescent Center in Madisonville, Kentucky. He had been a meter installer for the city of Madisonville, and attended the Assembly of God Church. His wife, Bertie Isbell Bowerman, died in 1989. Surviving are a brother, Willis Bowerman of Oklahoma City, Okla; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
