Before starting school I want to say a word about Jacob Stump. He was a big red faced man with a thick full beard of long red whiskers. He had at least three sons Abe, Dan and Levi, whom I knew. I think there was another son that I never met. He also had at least two daughters Mrs Mishler and Mrs Hamilton.

In 1883 Mrs Mishler lived with her family on the homestead where her son William lived at the time of his death two or three years ago.

Many people boast of their family tree, but throughout a wide community with Edison at the center the twigs and leaves of Jacob Stump have blown across the years and drifted through nearly every front door. The Jacob Stump seed is scattered along the highways and byways clear on through Washington to California. They are still sprouting and growing.
