Carrie was the daughter of Columbus Javan Trammell and Martha Jane Allen. She married James Gordon Bailey March 30, 1913 in Fannin County, Georgia. They were married by Thomas Crawford.

Six of their ten children were sons who all served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The three oldest sons Columbus Javan, Thomas Fosh, and Jackson were overseas in combat in WWII when their father passed away. Carrie was visited by Carl Abernathy then director of the Red Cross for the Copper Basin area. He sympathized with her on the death of her husband.

He stated that she had the privilege of requesting early release of one of her sons from his military duty to return home to assist her. After long consideration and prayer she couldn't bring one son home and leave the other two. All sons returned after the war.

In 1923 Carrie's father deeded 840 acres of land to her. It was located in the Seventh District and the second section of Fannin County south of Blue Ridge.
