The funeral of William Frank Buchanan, well known Charlotte citizen, who died Tuesday night at his home, 9 Mint street, following an illness of about a year, will be conducted at the residence at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon by Rev. A. A. McGeachy, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery and the graveside service will be under the auspices of Excelsior Lodge 261, A.F. and A.M.

Members of the lodge will meet at the Masonic temple at 2 o'clock and proceed to the home of their deceased fellow member for the funeral. Pallbearers will be members of the lodge. mr. Buchanan was one of the most prominent Masons of the city and one of the oldest members of Excelsior lodge.

He had been in ill health for nearly a year and for several days his condition was critical. Realizing that their father's end was near, the sons and daughter of Mr. Buchanan gathered at his bedside some days before his death.

Mr. Buchanan was 63 years of age, having been born May 12, 1860, at Chester S. C. February 1, 1861 he married Miss Elizabeth E. McGill of Richburg, S. C., who survives. He had lived in Charlotte since 1883. Under the administration of Mayor Bland, 1911-1913, Mr. Buchanan was a member of the old board of eldermans. Largely through his efforts many city improvements were made, outstanding among which was the widening of Mint street. He was instrumental in gaining a grant from the government of an eight foot strip of property along the boarder of the postoffice site on Mint street so that the street at that point might be widened.

Mr. Buchanan was the owner of much real estate in Charlotte and was thought of by the citizens of the city as being one of the leading men of the community. He was prominently connected with civic affairs.

Mr. Buchanan is survived by his widow, and the following children and grandchildren: Four sons, Dr. W. F. Buchanan, Jr., of Washington, D. C.; Harry P. Buchanan, of New York; Cary P. Buchanan and H. Frank Buchanan, of Washington, D. C.; one daughter, Mrs. P. M. Edge, of Charlotte; Margaret and Arthur Buchanan, children of a deceased son, Dr. Arthur M. Buchanan, of McColl, S. C. who died November 5, 1912; and Philip Edge, Jr., of Charlotte. Another son, Burtus L. Buchanan, of New York, died March 15, 1916.
