BURKE - Margaret died at Elm Grove, Adams co, Illinois, 7 July 1871, in the 52nd year of her age. She was born in Randolph co, N.C., in the year 1819, and emigrated with her mother, Mrs Mary Balfour, in 1835. She was married to her now bereaved husband, William Burke, in 1839, and was the mother of 8 children, three of whom died in infancy, a fourth, a little daughter, died at the age of six years; four yet survive, two sons and two daus, all grown...Sister Burke was an affectionate wife, a tender mother, and a consistent Christan (Long poem composed by Mrs E B Drake on the death of her sister).
