MARY DWIGHT:

Mary Dwight's birth in 1635 occurred prior to the award of the land grant to what would become the body of "Dedham" proprietors, and even more precedent to anybody being resident on any portion of the geographic area that became "Dedham." Mary Dwight's birth-at-sea is confirmed in Samuel Sewall's Diary, her demise and funeral under her married name of Phillips; however it is written that MARY DWIGHT "she is mentioned in the town records as the first child born there".

From Samuel Sewell's Diary I find.

Sixth day Jany 8th, Went to the Funeral of Mrs. Mary Phillips, who was born at sea, is within a fewe months of 80: a good woman. Bearers, Mr. Cooke, Elisha Hutchinson,; Mr. Addington Townsend; Mr. Dummer, Ephraime Savage.

From the book "The History of the Descendants of John Dwight, of Dedham, Mass.By Benjamin Woodbridge Dwight – 1874
