Mildred Carolyn Pennington Clifton, 87, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Peachtree Centre.

A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of late Grover Cleveland Pennington and the late Hattie Salmon Pennington. She was a seamstress and was once employed by School Timer Frocks in North Charleston.

Mrs. Clifton lived in Goose Creek for 45 years, where she was a member of Gospel Light Independent Baptist Church. She had resided at Peachtree Centre since 2003. She was once an avid gardener and owned a greenhouse with orchids, bromelaids, African violets, roses and other flowers, which she loved to give to others.

Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Robinson of Gaffney, Jolene Anderson of Longview, Texas, and Tanya Seals of Lexington; a son, James McCraw of North Charleston; a brother, Eugene Pennington of Gaffney; a sister, Frances Putnam of Palm Dale, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce DeHart; two brothers, Bobby Pennington and Johnny Pennington; and a sister, Nellie Phillips.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. James Price. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Donny Robinson, John Jolley, Chris Bryant, Len Killion, Worth Bowman and Trey Bowman.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Shuford-Hatcher at Frederick Memorial Gardens, 986 Chesnee Hwy.
