July 5, 2010 Golden Gladwin Alt, 91, of Upper Tract, WV passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010 at his home after an extended illness. He was born on January 30. 1919 in Smoke Hole, WV and was the son of the late Zachariah Filmore Alt and Mary Alice (Kimble) Alt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 2nd wife, Anna L. (Bean) Alt in 1981, one son, William E. Alt; three brothers, Frank "Doc" Alt, Warnie O. Alt, and Okey T. Alt; five sisters, Stella Alt, Myrtle Layton, Glona L. Kimble, Minnie S. Kimble, and Alberta A. Moorehead. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Alt was a lifelong farmer and a rural mailman for the Upper Tract area for many years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and the Petersburg American Legion Post 78. SURVIVING: His wife, Alberta D. Alt of Upper Tract, WV Two sons, Larry G. Alt and Stephen L. Alt of Upper Tract, WV Two daughters, Patricia A. Alt Neal of Belington, WV and Danea Alt of Upper Tract, WV Six grandchildren, Elizabeth Alt Scott, Gary A. Alt, Timothy Neal, Brian Neal, William E. Alt, Jr. and Heather Alt Currier. And several great grandchildren Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. (July 8th) at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. Interment will be in the Bowers Cemetery, Jake Hill Road, Upper Tract, WV with military rites by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and the West Virginia Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Grant Memorial Hospice, P.O. Box 1019, Petersburg, WV 26847.
