Louis Eugene Cheney, 57, of Caldwell, died Sunday, April 7, in a Caldwell hospital of natural causes. Mr. Cheney was born March 25, 1928, in Jackson, Wyo., to John Fleming and Vera Goodell Cheney. In 1944 he came to Nampa with his parents and they settled east of town. He completed his education in Nampa, graduating from Nampa High School in 1945. After graduation he went to work for the Amalgamated Sugar Company in Nampa where he had been employed for 39 years. He married Edna J. Peterson on Nov. 3, 1948, in the Logan, Utah, L.D.S. Temple. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in January of 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in January of 1954. After his discharge he returned to Nampa and the sugar factory. From 1974 to 1980 they lived in Burley where he was assistant superintendent at the sugar factory. From 1974 to 1980 they lived in Burley where he was assistant superintendent at Amalgamated Sugar in Nampa. Mr. Cheney was an active member of the Caldwell Sixth Ward L.D.S. Church. In his many years in the L.D.S. Church he had served as scoutmaster, ward clerk, deacons quorum adviser and held many other positions. He was also president of the El Rancho Heights Homeowner Association in Caldwell. He enjoyed playing golf, being involved in scouting and working in the yard.
He is survived by his wife of Caldwell; his mother, Mrs. Vera Crager of Caldwell; one daughter, Jane Boyer of Poway, Calif.; three sons, John Cheney of Hisai, Japan, James Cheney of Provo, Utah and Jerry Cheney of Heyburn; two brothers, Mark Cheney of Salt Lake City, Utah and Jack Cheney of Idaho Falls; one sister, Barbara White of San Jose, Calif.; four stepbrothers, Weldon Richardson of Jackson, Wyo., Kenneth Richardson of Toole, Utah, Theron Richardson of Nyssa, Ore., and Clifford Richardson of Clay Pool, Ariz.; two stepsisters, Ilena Nielson of Jackson, Wyo., and Eva Pack of Jackson, Wyo., and Eva Pack of Hawthorne, Utah; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one stepsister, Venice Grant.
