L. KERN'S DEATH OCCURS IN WEST.

Former Local Steamboat Engineer Succumbs In Albuquerque.

Louis Kern, former resident of Monroe, where he was well known for many years, died in a veteran's hospital in Albuquerque, N. M. Thursday, according to word received here.

The body will arrive in Monroe Saturday night and the funeral will be held at Peters Funeral chapel, Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in the Jewish cemetery.

Mr. Kern was for years engineer on boats on the Ouachita and Mississippi rivers. A few years ago his health became impaired and he went to El Paso, Tex., to stay, hoping the change of climate would prove beneficial. Later he went to Albuquerque and entered a veterans' hospital.

He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war.

Surviving are the following relatives; one brother, Albert Kern, St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. P. Goldstein, Tyler, Tex.; niece and nephews, Miss Cecile Weil, Monroe; Hyman Liebreich and D. B. Weil, Monroe; and Henry and Herman Liebreich, El Paso, Tex.

The pallbearers will be as follows, Dr. Philip Gayle, Lee Lemle, Sidney Kahn, Leon Sugar, Henry Haas, Abe Arnet and Byron Marcus.
