Mrs. Frank Butz, 73, a lifelong resident of the St. Cloud area, died unexpectedly early Friday evening at her home in St. Cloud. A daughter of the late Matthias and Katherine Mertes Holzmann, she was born Apr. 3, 1893, in St. Cloud and was married there to Frank Butz on Feb. 9, 1915.
She and her husband farmed near St. Cloud until retiring about 10 years ago. Since that time they made their home in the village. Mrs. Butz was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Cloud Catholic Church and the auxiliary to the Harvey Blonigen American Legion post. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Clement Simon of Johnsburg and Mrs. Al Frank of Fond du Lac; six sons, Donald, Francis and Kenneth of DePere, Gordon and Gerald of West Bend and Roy of St. Cloud. She also is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Eleanore Heacock in Michigan, Mrs. George Gullickson of West Bend, and Mrs. William Sweezie of Lucas OH; two brothers, Arthur Holzmann of Plymouth and Edgar of Tampa FL; 40 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cloud Catholic Church following brief family rites at 9:30 a.m. at the Lisowe Funeral Home in St. Cloud. The Rev. Roman Stoffel, pastor, will be the celebrant of the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. A parish vigil will be held there at 8 o'clock Sunday evening.
