Dictionary, Kansas, 1879 - The Biography of Theodore Poehler. "He was married,
April 9, 1855, at Burlington, Iowa, to Miss Sophia Knoner, a very estimable and
well-educated lady, an active member of the German protestant church. She died
in Lawrence (KS), March 30, 1871. They had seven children, only five of whom are
living: Charles, died in infancy; Albert, a promising youth, died April 11,
1873, aged sixteen; Matilda is a graduate of a seminary for young ladies in
Lemgo, Germany; Emma is now in high school of Lawrence (KS), and evinces
considerable musical talent, is the organist of the Lutheran church and a member
of the Episcopal church choir in Lawrence (KS); Theodore, twelve years old;
Clara, ten, and Louis, eight. He was married a second time, March 20, 1872, his
present wife being Miss Sophia Tappe, a member of the Lutheran church. The issue
of this marriage was three children: Harry died at the age of one year; Robert
died when but one year old, and Bertha, now aged one
year."
