Deceased Name: HELEN LANE DIES AT 102; HOSPITAL ACTIVIST

Helen Lane, who served a total of 50 years as a trustee of Children's Hospital and Medical Center, where the main entrance is now named for her, has died in a nursing home at 102.
The hospital's main entrance was named Helen Lane four years ago, on her 98th birthday.
She was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1936 and served in an active role for 18 years. She then moved to the honorary board, but continued to take part in trustee meetings.
Lane also was a leader in fund-raising events for the hospital, including the annual garden sale. She had served as a board member of the Seattle Visiting Nurses Service and was a member of the Sunset Club, the Seattle Garden Club and the Pioneer Society of Seattle.
She was born in Lawrence, Kan., and came to Seattle as a child.
She witnessed the fire that devastated the city in 1889.
Her husband, J. Richard Lane, and a daughter, Helen White, died earlier. Lane is survived by two daughters, Francis Pelly and Josephine Collins, both of Seattle.
Private family funeral services are planned.
