— MILTON — Steward I. "Sam" Baker 79, of Shakespeare Ave., entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at his home.

Born on May 7, 1931, he was the son of the late Lester O. and Edna P. (Narehood) Baker. He married Gayle L. Russell on Jan. 17, 1951, who preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 1994.

Sam saw action in Korea while serving with the 3rd infantry division and attached antiaircraft units in the Army. He was honorably discharged as a private 1st class on Sept. 23, 1953.

He worked at Narehood's Quarry, Milton and at Shippers Car Line, Milton retiring after 30 years in May 1993.

He was a beloved father and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was always there to help people in need. Sam liked to go out to eat. He was an auxiliary police officer in Milton and volunteered with the Milton Red Cross. He was a member of the VFW and the Moose both of Milton.

Sam is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Denise and Jim Cromis, of Benton, Tina and Clyde Fetzer, of Milton, and Karen Solt, of Danville; a son, Keith Baker, of Milton; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Shane and Crystal Moyer, Desiree Baker, Tabitha Watts, and Clyde Jr. and Jonelle Fetzer, all of Milton, Tiffany Baker, of Philadelphia, Pepper and Bill Delsite, of Laurelton, and Nova and James Lower, of Lewisburg; step-grandchild and husband, Jen and Bob Betz, of Benton; two sisters, Pearl Yoder and Faylene Narehood; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Cody, and Sommar Moyer, Wesley Martz, Nicholas Young, Matthew, Joshua, Madison, and Xander Delsite, and Arianna Fetzer.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, John R. Solt and Rebecca S. Moyer; two brothers, Roy and Cloyd Baker; a sister, Violet Bates; a great-granddaughter, Amanda Lower; a half-brother, Eric Swanger; and a half-sister, Hazel Swanger.

Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Shaw Funeral Home, Milton with the funeral following at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. John H. Shaw III officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
