He was the son of Francis Marion and Harriet Catherine Mangrum Eley. He married his first wife June 28, 1895, at Poplin's Cross Roads, Bedford Co., Anna Eleanor S, daughter of Thomas Green and Martha Stevenson Sykes. She had auburn hair, and died at the age of 36 years in Greenville, Texas, where she is buried with her three babies in East Mount cemetery. Jessie Lee (Uncle Jack) Eley worked at Collins furniture store on the square in Greenville when he went there the first time. He married his second wife, Mrs. Mary Frances (Fannie) Alsbrooks Hensee, March 23, 1913 in Greenville, Texas. She was the daughter of Robert William Alsbrooks and wife Edna Earl Jones Alsbrooks, and was born June 6, 1890 in Dawson Srings, Hopkins County, Kentucky. Jessie Lee Eley, Sr. was the shoe man at J.J. Thompson store in Shelbyville, and was at the store when he dropped dead Dec. 1931. He was buried Dec 21 in the Unionville Cemetery in Bedford County, Tenn.
