She is the daughter of, Samuel Bates Briggs and Susannah S. Phillips. They married on 28 Apr 1825 in, Athens, Athens, Ohio. Samuel was born 28 Mar 1805, in Middleborough, Plymouth, Massachusetts and he died 29 Dec 1872, in Canyonville, Douglas, Oregon. Susannah was born 1805, in New York and died 28 Jul 1880 in Canyonville, Douglas, Oregon.

Sephronia married Cornelius on, 19 Feb 1851 in Fort Madison, Lee, Iowa. Her parents had traveled there to meet up with their future son inlaw to plan and prepare to go back to the Oregon Territory with him and more specifically the Southern Oregon, Willamette Valley. They had farmed in Iowa for a few years. But, desided to sell it and move on to get better free land in Oregon. Two of Cornelius' brothers also were set for the trip to Oregon. They had a light wagon for the new married couple and another much heavier wagon that needed at least six oxen to pull it with the brothers both steering.
