When 11 years old he became a sailor. and followed a seafaring life until twenty-five, when he settled in Michigan, and married Miss Marietta Rogers. Two years afterwards they removed to Wisconsin, and have lived in this vicinity ever since. There is a family of three children, the oldest boy being about fourteen. He lived on the farm of Mr. John Hasey for severL years. He was highly esteemed as a friend and neighbor, and was eminently just in his dealings. He was a member of Gem Lodge, I.O.O.F., and that fraternity during the last illness performed such acts of kindness as money can not buy towards their afflicted and lamented brother."

"Death of Alfred Brewer.
The sad announcement of the death of Alfred Brewer, the news of which reached this city soon after his spirit had departed on Thursday morning, was not entirely unexpected, for it was well known there were but faint hopes of his ultimate recovery. He has been ailing now for two years past, troubled with disease of the throat, from the effects of which he died. Mr. Brewer was in the 48th year of his age and an old resident of this vicinity. He has been a tenant on Mr. John Hasey's farm for nearly nine years past. His demise will be deeply mourned by a wife, three children and a large circle of friends. His funeral services took place from his late residence in the town of Columbus, on Friday afternoon, and were conducted by Rev. M.G. Todd, the Odd Fellows having charge of the remains of which Order he was a member. His life was insured in the Odd Fellows' Benefit Association for $1000."
