ABE ARENT DIES AT HOME HERE.
Prominent Local Businessman Succumbs Early Thursday.
Abe Arent, a native of Union parish and a prominent business man here for the past 50 years, died at his home early Thursday morning.
Mr. Arent was born at Farmerville on June 12, 1876, and moved to Monroe when he was 25 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rowena Hirsch Arent; three sisters, Mrs. John Taylor and Misses Minnie and Rose Arent, and one brother, Harry Arent, all of Farmerville.
Mr. Arent organized the Arent Investment company, in 1920 and had extensive holdings here. He was active in civic affairs here for many years. He was a charter member of the Monroe Rotary Club and at the time of his death, was an honorary member of that organization. He also was a charter member of B'nai B'rith and was a member of the board of trustees when the Jewish temple was built here in early 1917.
Mr. Arent was an ardent sportsman and maintained a fishing and hunting lodge on Pace's lake. His friends termed him the perfect host and his home was always open to visitors. Each Christmas he held open house and hundreds of friends and acquaintances called.
On July 3, 1926, Mr. Arent donated a strip of property now known as Harrison street, from Jackson to Catalpa streets, to the city of Monroe. He won praise of his fellow citizens for many other contributions to the advancement of the community.
Funeral services will be held from the residence at 310 Hudson land at 3 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. R. K. Hirsch, officiating. Burial, under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, will follow in the Jewish cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Francis Barringer, W. S. Patton, Dr. C. P. Gray, Jr., Dr. William L. Bendel, Clarence Marks, Edell Blanks, Sam Rubin, Henry Florsheim, E. L. Neville and Clifford Strauss.
