Funeral services for Ray Birmingham, 80, of Garland, formerly of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow in Greenview Cemetery with Bill Williams, Johnny Ferguson, Bob Latham, Charles Amax, John Landers and Octave Woods serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Short and Tom Nied.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Ray Birmingham passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 25, 2011, in Sulphur Springs.

He was born in Sulphur Springs on June 30, 1930, the son of Joseph Birmingham and Willie (Clark) Birmingham.

He married Ava Jean Taylor in the Divide community on July 29, 1949. She survives.

Mr. Birmingham was a retired supervisor for Texas Instruments. He was a Mason, a Shriner and member of Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Church of Christ.

Other survivors include one daughter, Tammie Sue Short and husband, Mark, of Rowlett; one brother, Odell Birmingham and wife, Marion, of Greenville; one sister, Laura Faye White and husband, Monty, of Greenville; and two grandchildren, Amanda Nied and husband, Tom, and Taylor Short.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Talmadge Birmingham, and one sister, Claudine Bevill.
