Arvella Johnson Blackmon, a resident of Abbeville, died early Wednesday morning, January 2, 2019, at her home. She was 90. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2019, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Brother Gary R. Brady officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the mortuary. Mrs. Blackmon was born in Plant City, Florida and was reared in Geneva, Alabama, daughter of the late Timothy Titus Johnson and Jessie Miller Johnson. She lived in Anchorage, Alaska before moving to Abbeville in 1978. Mrs. Blackmon was a member of the Restored Hope Ministries in Grimes, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Coolidge Blackmon, three sisters, Elizabeth Booth, Merle Wilson and Thelma Kirkland, and a brother, J. C. Johnson. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Diane Blackmon, Abbevlle; three sons, Calvin Wayne Blackmon (Connie), Jacksonville, Fl; Jerry Orville Blackmon (Penny), Headland; and Darrell Ivey Blackmon (Alivia), Montgomery; a brother, Joe Johnson (Sarah), Geneva, Al; four grandchildren, Sheena Hunter (Chris), Angel Jewell, Darren Blackmon (Lisa) and David Payne (Lacey); seven great-grandchildren. Holman Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of funeral arrangements.
