Derald Dean Barnard, 78, of Sedalia, Missouri, died Friday, January 25, 2002, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born January 8, 1924, in Athensville, Illinois, a son of Joshua and Luvina Woods Barnard. On September 3, 1966, in Michael, Illinois, he married Delores A. Zipprich, who survives of the home. Mr. Barnard was raised and educated in Greenfield and Jerseyville, Illinois. He worked at the International Shoe Company in Illinois and was a supervisor at Town & Country Shoes in Sedalia. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 831 for 34 years, earning his 4th Degree and serving as the financial secretary. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, AARP No. 660, the American Diabetes Association, and was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in China. Survivors also include two sons, Donald and Rodney Barnard, both of Jerseyville; two sisters, Wilma Chappie of Carrollton, Illinois, and Cleta Hayes of Jerseyville; a brother , Bob Barnard of Cape Coral, Florida; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by seven brothers.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. Monday, January 28, 2002, at Sacred Heart Church, with Father Tom Albers officiating. Burial will be at 4:00 P.M. Monday, January 28, 2002, at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Illinois. Pallbearers will be Bill Garrett, Kenneth Grott, Charles Rayl, Leonard Makarewicz, Donald Brown and Carl Gramlich.
Friends may call after 11:00 A.M. Sunday, January 27, 2002, at the McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive visitors from 3:00 to 4:30 P.M. Sunday. The rosary will be recited at 3:30 P.M.
