Mrs. Dewey Is Laid to Rest in Toulon
Funeral services for Mrs. George W. Dewey, late of Seattle, Washington, were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at H. E. Kidd's mortuary in Toulon. Rev. W. B. Steele, pastor of the Congregational church, was in charge of the services.
The service of song was in charge of Mrs. E. H. Lloyd and Mrs. George Brace who sang two selections, as follows: "The Home of the Soul" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye."
The body-bearers were C. S. McKee, W. S. Newton, H. W. Walker, M. C. Hall and A. W. Shinn, all of Toulon, and John Dewey, of Glendive, Montana.
Interment was in Toulon cemetery beside the body of Mr. Dewey who preceded his wife in death 21 years ago.
Mrs. George W. Dewey Jr., who was formerly Miss Jennie Ostrander, was born in Carthage, New York, August 11, 1844, and she passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kate Davis, at Seattle, Washington, with whom she had made her home of the past 14 years. Her death occurred February 8, 1929, she being aged 84 years, 5 months and 27 days at the time of her demise.
April 14, 1868, she was united in marriage to George W. Dewey at Oneida, Illinois, and to this union were born the following children: Mrs. Kate Davis, of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Diantha Sigrist, of Tonasket, Washington; Margaret, of Olympia, Washington; John Dewey, of Glendive, Montana; Mrs. Trella Bovey, of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Mary McCabe, of Conrath, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Laura Burris, of Olympia, Washington. [sic, Mrs. Julia McCabe, Tonasket, Washington, is listed as a surviving daughter in the death notice in the Feb. 13, 1939, issue of The Stark County News.]
Besides the above children, Mrs. Dewey is survived by 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, also one sister and two brothers. Mr. Dewey died December 4, 1907.
Mrs. Dewey had been ill but a short time preceding her death. She remained conscious to the end, recognizing members of her family until only a few hours before she died. It was her expressed wish that her remains be brought to Toulon for burial beside her husband, the body being accompanied to this city by Mrs. Kate Dewey, Mrs. Mary McCabe and John Dewey who reached here last Wednesday morning.
During her later years, Mrs. Dewey often expressed her strong desire to return to Toulon and visit with her old friends.

A CORRECTION.
THE NEWS received a letter this morning from Mrs. E. L. McCabe of Conrath, Wisconsin, in which are given additional facts in the obituary of her mother, Mrs. George W. Dewey, who was buried in Toulon cemetery Thursday afternoon. The letter was received too late to make the suggested changes and additions in the account of Mrs. Dewey's life, which is given on page 3 of this issue.
Mrs. Dewey was born in Pitcairn, New York, instead of Carthage. While yet a little girl, her parents came to Illinois, settling in Oneida and afterwards moving to Galesburg. Her marriage to George W. Dewey was solemnized by Rev. William Watson, at one-time pastor of the Toulon M. E. church. All of her married life was spent in Toulon and vicinity, and when Mr. Dewey died in 1907 she went with her son to North Dakota and in 1910 went farther west to the state of Washington. In early life she was a member of a Baptist church, but when she came to Toulon she put her membership in the Congregational church and later transferred to Mt. View Congregational church at Tonasket, Washington.
