Hold Funeral Sunday, Raymond Carter, 58
Funeral services for Raymond Carter, 58, Wyoming, formerly of near Toulon, were held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at Toulon Baptist church.
Mr. Carter, a veteran of World War I and a retired farmer, died Thursday afternoon at Peoria Proctor hospital following a lengthy illness. He had been hospitalized most of the time since he was taken ill November 9, 1949.
For 28 years he resided on farms near Toulon, retiring from the farm and moving to Wyoming in March, 1948.
For the past two years he has had manufactured a weed and grass mower which he invented.
Rev. Arthur O. Charsky, pastor of Toulon Baptist church, was in charge of the services. Mrs. Mason Williams, soloist, sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Sunrise." She was accompanied at the organ by Miss Fannie Jackson.
Pall bearers were Harold Trimmer, Marshall Faw, Earl Roark, Fred Price Jr., W. Robert Grieve and Truman Phillips.
Burial was in Toulon cemetery.
Raymond, son of S. L. and Nannie LaRue Carter, was born October 9, 1891, near Hodgenville, Kentucky.
On August 27, 1919, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Warren, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, who preceded him in death September 3, 1936. Two children were born to this union.
Mr. Carter was united in marriage June 8, 1938, with Mrs. Hazel Gregory, of Peoria, who survives.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter Jean, Mrs. Lawrence Birdsley, of Port Byron; a son Hugh, student at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Keltner, of Peoria, Mrs. Pearl Dabler, of Wyanet, Mrs. Ella Skaggs, of Hodgenville, Kentucky; four brothers, Herman, of Wyanet; Leonard, of Franklin Grove, Clarence, of Wyoming, Ira, of Toulon; a step-son, Robert Gregory, student at Western College at Macomb; a grandson, David Carter, of Chicago.
One brother preceded him in death.
