Martha (Junkins) Preble was the 1st wife of Brigadier-General Jedidiah Preble. They were married on the 21st of March, 1733, by the Rev. Joseph Moody. She was between eighteen and nineteen years of age and Jedidiah was about twenty-six years of age. Martha was the daughter of Alexander Junkins, of Scotland Parish, in Old York. Martha and Jedidiah had four sons and one daughter together. This contributor is a descendant from their first son, Jedidiah, who married Avis Phillips, of Boston. Martha Preble died at Falmouth, on the 10th of March, 1753, and was buried on the 12th--Stephen Longfellow, the grandfather of the poet Henry W. Longfellow, was one of the pall bearers.
