Fountain Rothwell, 50, of 145 Forest Hill, a well-known engineer for the State Highway Commission and long active in Boy Scout activities in the Central Missouri area, died at 6:53 p.m., Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital following an illness of about 10 days.
A civil engineer with the state road agency for the past 10 years, Mr. Rothwell was previously employed by the Contracting Missouri Petroleum Products Co. He attended the University of Missouri. He was also a member of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers as well as the national society, and was active in the First Presbyterian Church here.
Mr. Rothwell was born Feb. 25, 1909, at Columbia, the son of the late Wade Hampton Rothwell and the former Miss Margaret Austen. He was married July 5, 1938 at Bowling Green, to the former Miss Frances M. Bickell, who survives along with his mother, of Columbia.
Other survivors include: four sons, Robert Clark, James Austen, Edward Fountain, and Don Hampton, all of the home, one daughter, Miss Barbara Frances Rothwell, of the home, and one brother, Frank Rothwell.
Funeral services will be held at a Jefferson City funeral home at 2 p.m. today, with the Rev. A. B. Jackson, former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Vienna Cemetery. Vienna. The family has requested that contributions be made to the Orphans Home, Farmington, in lieu of flowers. (from contributor, Carolyn Boroughf)
