David was the son of Daniel Thomas Brunson and Sarah Frances Cheves. David went to Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN and also taught school. In 1901, he opened a law office at Murfreesboro, AR, then moved to Coalgate, OK, where he was a partner in Fooshe & Brunson law firm, which specialized in Indian land cases. He served as City Attorney and Mayor of Coalgate. He was a stauch Democrat, an active member of the Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Mason. He was also President of the Burk-Brunson-Calloway Oil Company and had an interest in several mining companies. In 1928, he moved to Ada, OK and practiced law there until 1946, when he moved to Oklahoma City, where he practiced law until his death.
