BROWNSTOWN -- Doyle E. "Dude" Lucas, 71, of Columbus died at 2:23 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at Columbus Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Lucas retired in 1992 from Golden Foundry in Columbus where he worked for 37 years.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Spurgeon Funeral Home with Randy Burton officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Freetown Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice of charities.

Mr. Lucas was born in Brown County Sept. 22, 1930, the son of Herman and Gladys Deckard Lucas. He married Eunice Wilson June 24, 1950. She died May 8, 1975. He married Virginia Foster June 26, 1976. She survives.

Also surviving are sons, Roger D. Lucas of Columbus, Randall S. Lucas of Kurtz, Doyle Lucas Jr. of Freetown and Tim Lucas of Edinburgh; stepsons, Richard Foster of Florida and Melvin Foster of Columbus; daughters, Penny Jo Lyons of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Cathy Winfield of Round Lake Heights, Ill.; brothers, Elza and Glen Lucas, both of Columbus, and Marshall Lucas of North Vernon; sisters, Alma Stott of Columbus and Irene Fields of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin and Raymond Lucas; and a sister, Shirley Bowling.
