Obituary: Melvin K. Granger, 49, former Lyons filling station operator, died at 6:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 24, at his home in Lyons. He had been suffering from a heart ailment the past four years.
Mr. Granger was born September 12, 1911, at Harlan, Kansas. He resided in Lyons 25 years and prior to that time, lived in Chase.
He married the former Shirley Cain of Lyons, September 11, 1939. He was a member of the Christian church and the Odd Fellows lodge.
A devoted and considerate husband, a loving and gentle father, his home and family were always first and uppermost in his heart. He leaves to remember him fondly, his widow, Shirley, and son, Terry, of the home; his father, E. L. Granger; three sisters, Ethel Granger, Mrs. R. L. McClain and Mrs. Joe Enlow, Jr.; a brother, Lester, all of Lyons; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was a gay, happy personality with a great zest for living, always known simply as "Melvin".
If he had hobbies, they were people and music. Engaged always in public service, he was able to satisfy the first in meeting and public.
The second was gratified through the church choir, quartet and barbershop singing.
He fought a valiant battle with illness and death, whom he eventually recognized as a friend who would release him from pain and open the door to vistas of a larger life he was convinced awaited him. With this in mind, he planned his funeral service, selecting music and scripture.
When the final call came, he was privileged to pass quietly and peacefully into that happier realm to greet his Lord.
