Ed Granger was born in Harlan, Smith County, Kansas in 1883 on the Granger farm in a dugout, which remained in tact until about 1960 and was accessible (centipedes and all). The farm was south of Harlan on the Soloman river. Ed owned and operated the hardware store in Harlan for several years and was a cobbler on the side. He eventually migrated to Lyons, Rice County, Kansas in the 1920's to become a rural mail carrier, which he remained until his retirement. They lived at 711 Main Street until his demise. Ed loved to play checkers, enjoy ice cream and raise chickens. He was quite outgoing and personable.
