Samuel was the son of Benjamin Franklin Brenner & Mariah Brenner. He was raised in Jefferson Twp., in the area of Como and Fairview. Samuel married Lucinda VanSkyock, the daughter of John & Paradyne Morrical VanSkyock, on March 4, 1877. The couple were the parents of John Franklin, Charles, Clarence, and Bernice Fern Brenner.

When he was a young man, Samuel and his in-laws were partners in the Brenner & VanSkyock drug store, which was located at New Mount Pleasant. Samuel, later, supported his family by working as a jeweler and he operated his business at 109 N. Meridian Street in Portland. After retirement, he and Lucinda moved to a home on State Street in Albany. The excess free time left him restless and he continued to repair watches, from his residence, for many years. Mrs. Brenner passed away in 1923.

Mr. Brenner married Mary E. Thomas Michael on April 4, 1925. She was the widow of John F. Michael and the daughter of Jesse & Sarah Whalen Thomas.
