On April 29, 1906 he married his wife Frances Gass and they began their family which eventually consisted of four girls, Katherine, Eloise, Ruth and Irene. The 1910 census of Rapides Louisiana shows the family living in the the Alexandria Ward 2 area with 2 girls Katherine 3 and Eloise 10 months old. The family must have moved back to Texas because on Sept 18, 1918 Benjamin registered for WWI in Greenville, Texas and was a train dispatcher for MK&T RR in the Hunt Dispatcher Station. He gives his wife Frances Smith as his nearest relative. The 1920 census of Greenville, Hunt Co. Texas shows four children, all girls living with Benjamin and Frances Gass Smith... Katherine 13, Eloise 10, Ruth 7 and Irene 5.
But by the 1930 census of Alexandria, Rapides Co. Louisiana shows the family back again and gives the same four girls Catherine now 22, Eloise F 21, Ruth J 18, and Irene G 15. By 1940 Benjamin and Frances are empty nesters living in Rapides County, Louisiana. He buried his wife Frances in 1952 just 4 years later he was laid beside her to rest.
