Jon Timothy Kunkel of Meridian, Idaho died at home early Sunday morn, March 28, 2010. Born June 4, 1962, in Portola, CA., Jon's boyhood was filled with fun and frolic in each of the pastoral villages his parents served in California, Colorado, Indiana and Idaho. Jon felt most at home in Wood River Country where he savored great fishing in Silver Creek and hiking the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in the 70's... this 'dream' fulfilled by Idaho's Senator Church whom we met on our first backpack trip into this magnificent surround. He commented on our family's colorful gear..."If you folks get lost, just spread your colors in any meadow and the helicopter will find you. You won't be lost for long." Before Jon graduated M.H.S, 1980, he owned one candy-apple-red 1956 Ford P.U. that he and his friends refurbished with black diamond tuck interior. Sadly, he sold his treasure when he joined his brother, Don, V.P., in their working partnership at DSC in Ontario, Ca. Jon managed their huge warehouse that supplied safety wear and gear world wide. Later, transferring to work @ Hickory Farms, Boise, he wished so often he'd not sold his 'treasure'. Jon enjoyed his employment with another generous employer and "the crew"! To know Jon was to observe his compassionate nature; a kind, sweet, gentle spirit alongside his gregarious high jinks that delighted his family and friends. Recently, while living in Hawaii, he was blessed by friendships in community with native Hawaiians whether in the village, church, drumming with Vic and Tim, and/or savoring Meadow's triple shot mochas in 'the village green'. Jon's profound love of nature was deepened by living among the abundance of natural wonders found both in Idaho and Hawaii. He gave himself to joys in discovery while home-schooling his grand girl, Breanna, by noting flora, fauna, geology and archaeology of Hawaii. (She wants to become a marine biologist.) Even in failing health, he and Carol savored island glories: ocean beaches framed by mountain majesty. Besides rearing their precocious Breanna, Jon and Carol enjoyed sweet fellowship in their mutual community of faith. Jon chose to be re-baptized in their magnificent Pacific 'pond'. Jon will be missed by all of us who loved him. Parents: Kathryn and Don; Dearest friend: Carol; Children: Hilary and Ryan; Grandchild: Breanna; Brother: Don and wife, Michele; Niece: Maryl and nephew: Darcy.

A graveside inurnment service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 5, 2010 at Dry Creek Cemetery, under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
