Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, Saturday, June 3, 1995
Philip B. Kesel, 77, St. Elizabeth, died Thursday at University Hospital and Clinics, Columbia. He was born Feb. 1, 1918, in Koeltztown, a son of Henry and Mary Kattenbrach Kesel. He was married May 23, 1943, in Apple Creek, to Nora A. Ruch, who survives of the home. He worked for Mack Electric in St. Louis for 27 years, retiring in 1978. He mobbed back to St. Elizabeth in 1979. He was a member of Teamsters Local 682 in St. Louis, St. Joseph.s Sodality and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. Other survivors include: five sons, Sylvester Kesel, St. Elizabeth, Donald Kesel, St. Louis, Roger Kesel, Aragon, Ga., Daniel Kesel, Catawissa, and Mark Kesel, Westphalia; nine daughters, Vernoica Kemna, Shirley Kemna and Clara Wilde, all of St. Elizabeth; Genevieve Jaco, Wardsville, Mary Jane Kesel-Twehus, Hollister, Sharon Chilcoat and Donna Belfiore, both of Jefferson City, Gail Kempker, Henley, and Dana Alexander, Dixon; 35 grandchildren, one step-grandchild and nine great-grandchildren. One son, Cletus Kesel, preceded him in death on April 10, 1995. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The Rev. John Degnan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the St. Elizabeth Community Center, with a senior citizen rosary at 4 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home.
