Mr. Baker was born in Knox County, Indiana, February 17, 1919, the son of Benjamin E. and Jennie M. Combs Baker. He came to this area as a boy and grew up in the Owensburg area. He moved from Bedford to 2500 Rockport Road, Bloomington, about five years ago.
He was employed as a maintenance man at Central Foundry before founding the small industry which is now located at Ninth and O Streets. Sons Jack and Arthur, Jr. entered the business with him. The business was started in Englewood , but moved to the present location in 1960. The firm produces metal spinnings for jet aircraft and space craft. It works in high tensile alloys and most of the work is for governmental agencies.
Mr. Baker was a member of the Pentecostal faith.
He married Evangeline Craig September 4, 1930, and she survives. Also surviving are four sons, Arthur, Jr., Ernest Bryan and George H. Baker, all of Bedford, and Charles E. Baker of Bloomington ; a daughter, Mrs. Sue Phillips of Springville; 17 grandchildren; three brothers, Oscar Baker of Arizona , Frank Baker of Owensburg and Everett Baker of Springville, and a sister, Mrs. Mary L. Anderson of Vincennes , Indiana . A son, Jack Virgil Baker, a brother and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Sister Grace Hillenburg and Brother Willard Crase officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery . Friends may call at any time at the mortuary.
