Mrs. Earl Ayres Dies Tuesday
Rites Scheduled This Afternoon
Sylvia Gertrude Ayres, 90-year-old Madill resident and widow of Earl E. Ayres, died Tuesday morning at her home in madill, 306 South Second Street.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ayres are scheduled for 3:30 this afternoon from Watts Memorial Chapel. Vance Crow, Madill Church of Christ minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodberry-Forest Cemetery.
Mrs. Ayres was born Aug. 11, 1888, near Bentonville, Ark. Her early childhood years were lived in Indiana while her father, the late Dr. J.F. Baker, was attending medical school. She moved to this region at the age of eight where her father was in medical practice a number of years.
She and her late husband were married May 10, 1908, in Sherman. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Ayres moved to the Woodville are of Marshall County where they lived until 1917 when they moved to Madill.
Mr. Ayres died March 18, 1968.
Mrs. Ayres had been a member of the Church of Christ since she was a young woman. Her death followed an extended period of ill health.
Her survivors include four sons, Ernest, James, Bill and Don Ayres, and two daughters, Mrs. Veda Kennon, and Mrs. Lucille Murray, all of Madill. Two other daughters, Clemma and Evelyn, preceeded her in death.
Also surviving are three sisters, Marion B. Murphy of Fort Worth, Mary Kirby of Dallas and Evelyn Brodie of Killeen, Tex., 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons of Mrs. Ayres served as casket escorts for the services and interment.
