Obituary.
Died, at her home on Pea Ridge, Feb. 12, 1890, Mary Clementine Baker, aged 23 years and 26 days.
She was a daughter of A. G. and Matilda Gamble, and was born Jan. 17th, 1867. At the age of 13 or 14 she made a profession of religion, and in the year 1885 united with the Free-Will Baptists, and has, during this entire time, lived in such a way as to make her life one of perfect consistency with her profession.
In the year 1884 she was united in marriage to Frank Baker, and to them was born one child, a precious little girl, who, at the tender age of 18 months, is left in the world without the anxious, loving, faithful care of a mother.
Nearly all the life of Mrs. Baker was spent at Seba, some five miles west of Bentonville, and the people of that community can, with much reason, bemoan the loss of so amiable a lady. Her husband delights to dwell upon the fact that his dear departed one had not an enemy in all the world. This, doubtless, was in a great measure due to the fact that she never spoke a harmful word of any human being. What a glorious record to leave behind! Alas, alas! how few of us can have these dear words truly uttered to our credit when we too shall slumber with the countless dead. Life is so real! and the record we are making is just as real as the life itself. A life gentle, pure, noble, and good, like that of this sweet-tempered woman, how its very record seems to soothe the pain occasioned by the visitation of the Angle of Death!
During Mrs. Baker's last hours, her only concern seemed to be in regard to her babe. She prayed that she might be spared to train it to womanhood. But God has willed it otherwise, and one more tender child is left to walk the treacherous paths of earth without the guidance of a mother's love. May the Holy Father keep its feet in paths of peace and holiness, until its mission here shall close!
To the bereaved husband, whose head is bowed in sorrow deep and dark, I can only say look to Him.
